Quiet 2 channel field-recorder for nature recording

I have been happily using the Zoom H4N and have recorded lots of wonderful nature sounds, and now I am looking to bump up the quality of my nature field-recordings by buying a field recorder with QUIET preamps .

BUT, unfortunately I don't have the money for one of those kick-butt Sound Devices machines. .

At2035+ Scarlett 2i2 combination not working! help!

Hi ! I am newbie to recording equipments. I just bought At2035 and scarlett 2i2, and I am not able to get them working.
I tried scarlett on Dynamic mic, and worked like a charm. But when I tried AT2035, i cant see any led signals. its not even lighting up as green.

1. I am supplying phantom power.
2. I am using XLR to XLR cable (not 1/4 one).

Best way to keep a perfect/even beat?

Let's say I'm recording MIDI with my piano, and I use a metronome. So far so good.

But when I have to cut, for instance, a 4/4 beat section out of the track that I just recorded, it seems almost impossible to have a perfect cut to where I could put that cut right next to each other and have perfectly 2 times that 4/4 beat.

Allen & Heath Qu-16 digital mixer

New mixer announcement from A+H: the Qu-16. This looks as if it's their answer to the PreSonus SL series, and it seems to have some advantages: 16 buses, motorized faders, recallable gains on the preamps , direct multi-track recording to USB memory stick or USB hard drive, dSnake and ME Personal Mixing compatibility.

I haven't seen any pricing information as yet.
