Mixer Question

I have narrowed my choice in a mixer that will be used mostly for recording and mixing drums. I am interested in the Mackie 1604 ProVlz and the Allen and Heath Mixwizard, model WZ16:2DX. I do not care too much about features, just quality. Does the Mixwizard have better preamps and EQ than the Mackie? I'm concerned about headroom, being that I will be using this for drums.

Why does eMagic convert imported stereo files to mono th

...seem to normalize the track volumes?

I import stereo audio and it asks if I want to convert to two mono tracks. Simple enough - it's going into one audio track. The only thing I notice is it seems to normalize the track volumes taking away individual track dynamics...

Am I doing something wrong or going crazy?

Recording a piano

Hi

The son of a friend of my wife's mother :-)
wants to get rid of his piano :-)

Don't get a piano offered for free every day, do you?

It will be tuned/checked on monday

After that I see myself trying to record my pling-ploing

Problem is I don't know a thing about recording something a bit realistic (for a realistic price).
