room tuning, mix translation, and low mids
Forums
so i'm mixing this record. but i'm mixing in a concrete basement, which is big, high ceilings [uneven wood, 9 ft], and my mix area is about 15ft cube, with the back "wall" of the cube actually going out 25 ft at least, irregularly [bookshelves, different depths, stairs, etc].

Millenia Media Modular Mixer..mmmm?
Forums
This looks promising for portable live recording work. Any experiences or opinions? I'll be tracking a lot of acoustic and jazz sources. Is this a solid make of gear/ Will it last forever? Is the sound glorious?
I appreciate any input.
Ted

Harvey Gerst RO MIA?
Forums
Us small-steppers miss our daily Harvey fix. Too bad we have to get it on R.A.P. What's up with that?
Harvey has been incredibly generous sharing his knowlege over the years. Is his run as an RO moderater over?
Thanks for the memories.
Jeff Roberts
P.S.-the pond froze yesterday.

Stupid Question: Why does my Win2k partition put on weig
Forums
I have Win2k installed on a 4 gig partition of a 20 gig WD hard drive. The remaining space has been partitioned into a second drive dedicated as the installation directory for programs. The initial instalation of Win2k took up about 1.5 gigs of space on the 4 gig partition.
analog recorders ?
Forums
hi,
for all out there. I would like to purchase multitrack analog tape recorder (16 ch). My budget is 2500$.
I found Tascam atr60/16 with remote and dbx noise reduction for 2000$, but I heard that this machine is bad.
Anyone that was useing this machine give me some information about it or tell me what should I buy in this budget range...

Live Recording Preamp Recommendation
Forums
Hey,
I run a small live recording company where I bring a Mackie HDR24/96 on site, bring a Mackie 1604 or use the house system, record with insert adapters or splitters, bring it back to the home studio, and mix it.

96k Pro Tools
Forums
OK, the word on the street is that the new 96k Pro Tools with new hardware and improved audio quality throughout the architecture and mix buses will be announced shortly...maybe February 2002. Or maybe I've been in the studio too much and haven't heard the latest.
So, studio owners and engineers, who is interested in this?

The future of analog tape
Forums
This topic is inspired by the various rumors (are they true? Anybody know?) that Quantegy tape is no more.
So...who here uses analog tape? Why, or why not? Do you use it for tracking...or mixing...or both? Which make and formula do you prefer?
Let's hear it for the sound and smell of analog tape...Bring it on!
Jon

To specialize or not
Forums
Hi folks,
I'm curious to hear what you all think:
In your career as engineers and producers, is it preferable to specialize in a particular style or genre...or two?
Or is it better to diversify as much as possible and avoid being categorized or pigeon-holed?
Let's hear your thoughts!
Jon
