What do you know about Killer Home Recording? Anyone? Yeah, me neither

Has anyone heard of Killer Home Recording? The creator of Recording Review . com wrote it. Anyways its an ebook that is wrapped around starting your own home recording business and dives in how to handle, any and everything really. He has a chunk of the ebook for free at the moment. I have read about 12-15 pages of it and its quite incredible.

Recording old Casio keyboards

I've got some Casios from the 90s that I won't to do a couple of tracks with. Any suggestions on how I might record one of these? I'm thinking maybe I can modify it somehow to get a decent line out from it. Has anyone here attempted something like this?

The only output it has is a small headphone jack. Let me know if you have any thoughts you'd like to share.

Which of these Hitachi Deskstar hard drives to buy?

I have four Hitachi drives (7200 RPM, 500 GB) in a Firmtek 4-bay external enclosure which I use with my PowerMac G5 Dual 2.7 computer. All Pro Tools HD data are stored on these four drives.

The drives are over 3 years old with around 3500 hours on them, so I am going to replace them, just to be safe. They have been extremely reliable (zero problems), so I plan to stay with Hitachi.

Setup for mobile recording

The best value performer in 8-10 channel FireWire interfaces is the RME FireFace 800. It has only 4 mic preamp-amps, but 6 further line inputs that will take the outputs of external boutique preamps , S/PDIF and 2 ADAT ports (16 channels) when you need to expand further. FF800s come up fairly regularly second-hand; I got one for just over £500.

What's your budget for microphones?
