dbx 160 vs dbx 160x

I'm looking to buy a couple of the dbx 160 compressor/limiter series. I've heard the dbx 160x and the 160a, and found the 160x to be superior. I've never heard the original dbx 160, and was wondering if it is considered the best model of the 160 series, or if the only difference between the 160 and 160x is the VU meter being swapped out for the LED meter?

Thanks,
-Adam

preamps and converters- EMU and RME

OK, I took the leap of faith and got a UA LA610. The reason I bought it is that it was half price- used- and I figure I can sell it if I don't see an improvement in my sound. Obviously I will see some improvement, but how much with just one component is a mystery. I record original tunes alone even though I am in a cover band, so one channel strip is enough for me.

Intermittent Monitor Disease

For some reason my monitors don't work sometimes. I have both monitors and speakers hooked up to my FireBox. Monitors into their respective outs and the speakers through the headphone jack. Sometimes I get no audio from my monitors but the speakers still work when activated. I try shutting them down and restarting them but that doesn't seem to work.

sweetened tuning for guitar

Hey Everyone

I'm sure some of you have heard about this...but my tech just turned me onto it last week (better late than never) and it stopped my ever constant quest for perfect intonation in its tracks

As you know I'm a recording songwriter, not a salesman for a tuner company but I just gotta point this out in case someone out there could use it

High Room Temperature and Monitors

My Studio is in a finished room above a garage. I turn the AC on only prior to recording. During July & August, the temperatures reach 94 degrees with high humidity (South Carolina Coast).
My question - Is this high temperature and high humidity potentially damaging to the speakers (Of course, equipment is never powered up until the room cools down)
