stereo to mono?
Forums
Just wondering if there is any reason to record in stereo if I'm then combining track with other mics and mixing down to mono.
I'm recording acoustic jazz bass with 2-3 mics and then mixing into a mono channel to use pan and use in a mix. Is there any difference in fullness of sound to mix stereo into mono vs just combining a few mono mic tracks?
Thanks!

Me and a couple friends are working on a band we have a few songs written for, and our lineup (even live) would be this.

The laptop will be running programmed drums, keyboards and other samples from FL Studio.
Which Pre to compliment a Great River ME-1NV (Pacifica vs Daking)?
Forums
Hi All!
I'm looking for a pre that's not quite as dark as the Great River with a little more high-end . Something that will give a nice presence to my vocals that has a vibe and is not too sterile/clean.
Which would compliment my Great River ME-1NV...Pacifica or Daking Pre/EQ...or something else?
My mics are Soundelux 251c and SM7. My vox is male rock/pop.

Does anyone have any experience with this mic? I see that they are dumping them at Musiciansfriend/GC for $199 where they were $599 until recently. I already have a Groove Tubes GT55, which I like. However, it is the only condenser mic I've ever owned besides an MXL 990 which I did not care for.

PT 6.4 and the 001
Forums
because the 001 is now old and probably out there second hand and cheap
... it might be a good starter unit for the kids with a cheap but modern PC
The modern PC (it needs a PCI slot ) will be much better than the computer at the time when the 001 was released
with more grunt and more memory
so virtual synths and plugs becomes more usable

AKG C91 tool
Forums
Hi all,
I have some older capsules for the C300 AKG modular microphones that I want to do some exploratory work on. Does anyone have a link to the tool to unscrew the little bastards? One of the capsules is known to be dead so I can play with that one all I want. Another one just needs to be properly tightened back up.
Thanks.

AD/DA converters?
Forums
Very newb question here, but its driving me nuts. haha. What exactly are the rack mount converters such as the Apogee800 used for. I know it says it's to convert your analog audio to digital but what does that mean really.
