MOTU 896mk3 vs PreSonus Firestudio
Forums
Hello! I've happily owned a MOTU 896 HD for the past 2 years. Recently, it decided not to power up. I've checked the fuses and they seem fine, so I will have it serviced, providing the cost isn't too ridiculous. However, in the event that it isn't salvageable and I need to buy a new interface, is the $1000 896 any better than the $599 Firestudio?

Converting MIDI to Audio
Forums
Hey yall, I'm using Sonar LE here and I'm trying to convert my MIDI tracks to audio. I have tried a bunch of different soft synths, I can get them to play fine and when I record the midi data they play back fine. When I try to convert them to audio it gives me the error "the specified selection did not contain any audio data". How do I fix this?

simplest way to reduce stereo headphone line volume
Forums
I use the stereo headphone output on my digital piano to record straight to mp3 recorder. But the mp3 recorder has no level adjustment. So I need a go between box between the piano and the mp3 recorder, only to reduce volume, I don't need to amplify.
Does such a device exist? Presumably it just needs to be a resistor, passive not active. Any tips? Thanks
splitting line inputs
Forums
Hi, first timer here, I play in a small jazz band and am always trying to think of low cost ways to produce a nice recordings.
For piano bass and drums I use a couple of cheap mp3 players with stereo line input for piano and bass, and a zoom h2 for drums. Mixed down this sounds real nice.

M-Audio 1010LT and +4db mixer
Forums
Hi guys.
I have a soundcard M-Audio 1010LT. My mixer's output are at +4db. Should I put all inputs at +4dBu on my M-Audio Control Panel ?
Also, any particular care for the inputs 1 and 2 on the 1010LT ? I know that these XLR inputs have preamps, so to my understanding they provide phantom power. It it safe to input directly from the mixer ?
Thanks !

unsigned and releasing demos from an upcoming CD?
Forums
hey guys, awhile back last year, I put together my most professional CD, which I like to describe it as emotionally there, I feel it's not completely perfected, and the arrangements will be updated and more mature when I get the money to go to a more high profile studio/a lot of other things.

Recording Flute
I am about to record a flute and am interested to hear other peoples
experiences. Have done this once before using a pair of Studio Projects C4
mics. Theory was was have a very good room acoustically and a pair of
omni’s can provide a vibey and live feel to the recording.
