Hello, first time poster, long time home studio musician. Hoping to get some insightful answers.

First up, the pertinent info about my setup:

Windows XP
Sonar 4.0
Behringer MX9000
M-Audio Delta 1010

With a number of hardware synths, Alesis QS6 for sounds & midi keyboard, Roland TD8, misc. hardware processors.

So two questions:

I been recording a good deal at home on pro tools and other various software for the past year or two, but I have always wondered about the lenght to record a vocal take for.
I usualy get my singer to record each line about 20 times or more till we have ''the one'',, its worked so far for us,,but thought id ask other people how far do they record for?

I just picked up a UAD-1e card for $130 CDn. I feel like a thief. These used to retail for about $450.00. Just thought I'd point it out since this is not exclusive to Canada. Front End Audio had these for $99 US but I missed that deal by an hour or so. They were sold out very quickly and I tried just after I received the email.

1) - Any good recommendations?
I want to add delay to a mic'ed ukulele.
I want the pedal to have tap-tempo available.

2) - What would my signal chain be?

Uke - Mic - Pre-Amp - Delay - Amp - Speakers

Would I need any kind of crazy wires in this setup?

I try to make music with synths and romplers but everything gets very confused. I try to raise the volume to distinguish sounds but everything gets even more mangled.
What should I do to avoid this?

I was wondering what kind of mixing effect was used in this particular song. The group is called killswitch engage and the song is called arms of sorrow. there is this effect that is used right before the snare hits and i wanted to learn how to do that in song i am mixing at the moment.

I had a few threads about my next mic, but the past few nights I've been helping someone to record better guitar tone and it occurred to me that I don't have a DI box. I think that that is a necessary evil before a second mic. What do you think?

I was planning on getting an m audio axiom midi controller, but at guitar center (I know not the most reputable source, hence why I'm asking) an employee recommened the akai mpk controller b/c he said the sliders and so force weren't always assigned correctly with some recording softwares (I run Sonar on a PC w/ vista).
