I'm new to recording but not to creating or playing music. I have a friend who owns an mbox and loves it. As a musician starting off with absolutely no home recording equipment save a screaming fast computer, what do you make of a deal like this:

I'm trying to record my high school concert bands (winds) and I have an interface hooked up with mics and such but I can't get the laptop to receive the line-in signal instead of the built in mic signal for input. Just trying to get some mild recordings of the band. We went into system preferences and clicked on line-in for the input, but Garageband is still only using the built in mic.

was wondering, as song tempo is a big factor in getting a song to sound/sit right, what methods do you find works well to obtain the correct tempo when you're about to record a song?

I am getting a foot in the door doing live tracking and have a few questions regarding how much to charge clients. I do not have the facilities to mix and really don't like to do it so I just track shows.

I was hoping someone could give me an opinion on the size of monitors I should go with for a room aproximately 12'x10'. I'm thinking of KRK RP line or M-audio BX line. Any recomendations I don't wanna get something too big but I don't want to get something too small either. These are mainly for mixing not tracking except on occasion.

Ok, I've gotten what I consider the nicest board I'm likely to have in the next couple of decades. I bought a Tascam DM-4800. I bought it with the main purpose of being able to send 32 channels back and forth to CUbase with the optional firewire card. SOme how, I cant seem to get the drivers installed.
