Just modded old 16ch Soundcraft Spirit Studio board to +4 from -10. Now the static (which has always been there) has increased. Here's what's been done up to this point:

I've noticed that there is a lot of hype about mic preamps, but I am a little confused...

Don't most audio interfaces have preamps already? Wouldn't you be stacking preamps? I heard that doing that creates extra noise.

I am looking to upgrade some of my studio stuff and right now I am using the Behringer MS16 "monitors" which I must say are pretty horrid, but that's what I got.

I am looking to upgrade to something that is actually worthy of being called "monitors." My price range is about $150.00.

I am preparing to build a new PC. I do a lot of voice over work. I have a mic and Preamp that is state of the art, but my PC's audio input is ehhh..
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy with the front mounted interface, but the audio input quality is less then what I would like.

I have just purchased an Apogee Duet.

The converters will blow your mind for the price of the unit but the preamps are a little weak.

Looking mainly for ideas, and some clarification (and a mic tip).

On the 15th, the Church band has a concert, along with a choir I will first meet about an hour beforehand. With 2 weeks to go, I still don't know half the song list, or who is doing what, and the only thing I'm sure of is that I'll be busy.

Ive been looking in previous forums but I can only find people talking about recording cello with a quartet. I want to know what A good way to record solo cello. The cellist will be playing along to acoustic folkish type tracks. We might be able to get access to a music practice room at the University in my town, but if not we are going to be in a house. Any Ideas or techniques?

Motivating this "product" question is my new project, recording two Cellos.
At this time i am planning to use a pair of C 414s in X/Y configuration.

I will not be able to make any A/B comparisons, as i dont have a locker full of microphones ( sigh )

Simply put:

I record through my PreSonus firepod. It can record 8 tracks at once. I don't necessarily need to *record* more than that at one time.

However,

Yeah I'm recording onto my comp and i keep getting this static-like pops and buzzes.
