Mod question on Soundcraft Studio Board

Quick background: I use this old 16 ch board to mainly record drums. Signal path into two Delta 1010's into my M-powered Pro Tools setup. After reading the Soundcraft manual for insight in regard to some level issues, I learned that the ch send is factory set to -10db. The groups are +4, but they are not currently running into the 1010's due to not having another 1010.

Alesis Multimix trouble in Audition

Hello,
I'm quite the newbie so please refrain from aimless insults. I'm aware of how clueless I am and humbly ask for help.
I've got Audition 3.0 and recently got an Alesis MultiMix 8 firewire mixer. Hoping to get separate tracks recording the separate inputs on the mixer. I'm having trouble doing two things:

How To Get A Good Metal Guitar Sound

Alright so I'm having a lot of trouble getting a good distorted sound. I don't know if it is the mics, Micing techniques or just poor eqing. I'm playing through a Mesa Dual Rectifier and getting a great sound that way. Im using one sm57 which goes through a PreSonus firepod and i just use Cubase le's built in eq's. Any suggestions?

Tascam US 122L drivers sluggish?

This thing has been giving me only headaches. I don't know if it's incompatibility with my Compaq V2000 (yes I know a laptop isn't the best for this kind of work but it's all I have at the moment) or what, but the Tascam works fine for a couple of minutes and then, the drivers go nuts. MIDI input stops responding as well, and audio sounds choppy.

Sennheiser e906

I received my Sennheiser e906 today and I must admit that i am surprised at how cheap it feels. I have not had a chance to use it and I am fairly sure I will be satifsied with the sound, but It will never go near a drummer as is recommended in the manual. If you are rough with equipment this might not be the mic for you. I just dont think the plastic used on the mic would stand up to much.

DAW Setup Troubles

I cannot coax sound from my newly configured DAW (PC based). I have only ever worked with a simple Audigy2 based setup in the past with mild success (as you can imagine). I decided in the last few months to upgrade.

Here is the lowdown;

I have a PC running Windows XP. Recently updated bios and am running a fresh install of OS. There are no other audio drivers installed.
