Description
The term ADAT has come to stand for both the original digital tape machines and also for the lightpipe data transmission system. The ADAT lightpipe has become an audio industry standard for digital data transmission between units other than the original ADAT tape machines.

ADAT and motu

okay, i've got a MOTU 828 with ADAT optical ins and outs. my question is, can i record onto the ADAT using the lightpipe? if so how? i'm wanting to record tracks onto the ADAT, and then transfer them into my computer for editing and mixing. oh, it's an ADAT xt by the way.

digital degradation ?

I was wanting to know if all soundcards mantain the purity of digital
signals fed into them ?

Say I have an entry level 4 I/O recording interface. (I actually have
one) which has SPDIF input and output. I purchase a good 2 channel ADDA
external converter. Feed the soundcard with this converter and monitor
off it too.

ADAT and sonar

question for yous guys, i just purchased an ADAT xt, and i also use sonar3 producer. i dont use an external mixing board, just the one in sonar. i was wondering if there was any way to slave the ADAT to sonar. what I'm wanting to do, is do all the mixing, eq, and effects in Sonar but record to the ADAT. is this possible? my motu828 has ADAT outs if that helps any?

AES/EBU and ADAT

hey all,

just wondering, I dont have any gear with AES/EBU and I havent really used that protocol much, is there a substantial difference in quality between AES/EBU and ADAT, I hear a lot of people saying pro's will not use ADAT, just after a bit of clarification.

cheers,
