Description
The term ADAT has come to stand for both the original digital tape machines and also for the lightpipe data transmission system. The ADAT lightpipe has become an audio industry standard for digital data transmission between units other than the original ADAT tape machines.

ADAT ?'s

this is my first post, but ive been watching here for a while taking a lot of great info.

okay, i want to move up to a better recording setup at my house, and i was thinking of getting an Alesis ADAT recorder, but i have a few questions that someone here could most likely answer.

ADAT to PC

I am currently recording using a silver face ADAT and and
Fostex VM200 digital board. I also record some things to
the ADAT with an analog board for warmth but always mix
with the Fostex digital board. The Fostex has an optical
connection to the ADAT (8 tracks in/out) and an optical
S/PDIF in/out to my computer for mastering. The computer

is an ADAT all i need?

hey I'm really getting sick of pci, firewire, and usb2 interfaces. my computer is new and real nice for mixing (athlon 3200, 1gig ddr3200) but my tracks are ALWAYS being ruined by one little pop. i hate this! anyways, is an ADAT unit the answer to my problems? can i just get an 8 track unit and input all my line signals? i already got all my eq and preamps, etc.

ADAT Optical Output in 96K?

As far as I know the information being passed through an ADAT Optical Digital out can only go as high as 48K. But I was researching the Focusrite Octopre and it states that there is a new ADAT spec that now makes it possible to use ADAT to transfer 96k digital information. Has any one heard about this? Or does any one know where I can get info on this new spec?

8 mic preamp unit with ADAT (light pipe) out

I'm looking for a nice 8 mic preamp unit with ADAT out for recording live gigs. I have some nice mic preamps at home (Avalon/Grace) and I don't intend these pres to be as good as those. I know my live recordings will not be as good as my other recordings because of the varrious rooms and track bleed. I will be feeding the ADAT into my MOTU 828mkII.

i need the "idiots guide to ADAT"

alright, my MOTU 828 interface of course has a fiber optic in and out (ADAT?). i work with hometheaters and theater installs, and I understand that this single connection can transfer 8 discrete channels or audio. Can I use this connection to send 8 channels of audio being recorded to a DAT machine with the same connection? Is this how this works?
