Has anyone checked this out yet? I need a A/d converter for my digi 001 I also need a decent mic preamp. How is this compared to the rosetta.?

Has anyone heard the Apogee AD-16? I've done a search on the forum, but it doesn't really pull up anything. Seems nice to have 16 Apogeeconverters for under $3k. Also, how do these compare to the AD-8000SE's or the Mytek 8x96? I've heard that Prismand benchmark are better all around, but that's some serious bucks, especially if the mytek or AD-16's can do a competent job.

Is RME really as good as apogee?

Decisions, Decisions. Which one to buy as an outboard AD converter for location recording on a 24 bit DAT recorder?
Pros and Cons: (As I see it)

Apogee Pros
Transparent. 120dB Dynamic range. Has limiter. 1U rack mount.

Apogee Cons
Can't use both AD & DA connected on DA-45HR.

I'm getting quite confused by this debate. I read Digi's response to it all on the DUC and I must say I thought some fair points were raised. I do think they should have made some clearer declaration earlier however.
I feel confused about whether I have any real right to feel a bit annoyed about the situation, or if it's just sour grapes.
What do you think about it?

Is this worth the $999 purchase guys. I'm no pro, but want to know if my signal chain would greatly improve or is the Roland's 24bit converter suffucient. U87,VS1880, Avalon 737 mic preamp?

Anybody have a line on renting two AD8000s for 12 days? Dreamhire seems pretty steep and (of course) producer has nearly vomitted at the mention of their rates and what it does for his budget...
