Let me preface this by saying I have owned some decent gear in the past but due to some real life at the time I had to sell my whole studio save for my martin acoustic. I was using a TLM 103 and a Focusrite red 7 previously.

I'll need it to record on my 1.2GHz iBook, so far I've used Logic Express but would like to try different hosts. I'll never use more than one input at a time, either guitar, mic, or MIDI, so a high number of simultaneous inputs and outputs isn't relevant. I guess it also means that I can make do with USB 1.0.

It seems my last post somehow got deleted, but I wanted to get some ideas on a cheap recording equipment. Something that has 2 inputs at least for microphones/DI. I'm a beginning recorder and I want something to record my own stuff, and also my bands. I was looking at this one...

the ESI 1010 (ESP or EGO company) is 10x10 PCI rack mount audio interface (similar to the Layla3G but with less dynamic range) and comes with this nice feature called directwire to allow any manner of connection (see below).

Have you heard of the ESP 1010 audio interface? Its looks similar in function to Layla3G with 2 mic preamp's and 6 balannced TRS inputs, 8 outputs, rack mount and PCI interface but no auto sensing mic/TRS input and no well recognized name I guess.

I want something that has the quality of lets say the digi002 but with less inputs.

I will only be recording 2 tracks at the most at one time.

So I dont need 8 mic inputs and 8 1/4s.

Im looking for something used to record with. 24/96, maybe 6 inputs (dont
necessarily need XLR inputs) . With breakout box (maybe rack mounted) that
interfaces to PC via PCI card. I saw an Aardvark Q10 that seemed a good
choice but they are out of business now I guess.
(Its ok if a product is discontinued but I prefer to have company still
