bass reading material
Could someone please point me in the direction of either good sites or good books that have reading material for the electric bass (as in note reading...not books about bass)?
I already have most of the Berklee series and a Carol Kaye book, as well as two Nanny books, but would like to get plenty more to keep me busy.

Gutiar Woods - Alder or Basswood ?
I plan on buying a cheap guitar(as stated in the pick-up thread) and now I don't know what wood is better, alder or basswood.
I read something here:
http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/wood.htm
but I still want to know what wood would be best for metal like Death,Lamb of God or Slayer ?

Bass Amp For Recording Rock - Zep Sound
I'm trying to get a nice sounding bass sound that emulates the
early Zep stuff. Looks like he used an acoustic 360. Any idea if there is a way to get that sound with some pedals or some of the new type of amps?
Thanks.
Mark

Fender Jazz Bass Pickup Question
I have a Fender Standard Jazz Bass 5 string. I bought it used and it has two pickups, One is really loud, and the second one (which I think sounds better, not as throaty as the first one) is really quiet. So if I'm trying for a nice smooth sound I have to crank up my amp. Is this a common problem, or should I look at this?

Electric Bass Recording Trends: DI vs. . Mic
Curious to know most widely used bass recording technique used in pro and semi-pro projects: DI vs Mic vs Both?
99.9% of sessions and original projects I work on use DI. In fact I can't recall ever using mic on my rig (or brining my rig) during a session.
Suggestion for pre/compressor for DI bass
It would be for many different styles of music. My budget is around $2300 and so far I've been looking at the UA 6176. Thanks for any suggestions

Adding subsonic frequencies for a bass?
Sorry I'm such a noob, but is there a simple way to add subsonic frequencies for a bass guitar, so that one doesn't hear them (as subsonic implies, heh), but rather feels them? Or am I in need of a special plugin /hardware to accomplish this task?
Thanks,
Rohan

Bass drum sound. . .
I currently own a Gretsch Birch kit and Taye Basswood/Birch kit. I use a Shure Beta 52. My bass drum sounds awesome acoustically (deep, warm, punchy), but when I mic it, I'm not getting the same sound out of the speakers. The sound is real open and too sustained. It has the depth, but not the punchy sound I'm looking for. I'm not running any EQ on the kick. Will that make a big difference?
