Home Recording beginner needing advice ! thx
Hi all.
I am a student living in Europe. I have made myself a little home studio : i play the bass guitar, learn acoustic guitar, own a cheap drum machine, and a 8 track mixer. I'm getting a microKORG controller/keyboard. My PC has the regular Sound Blaster Live card.

series of beginner questions
If there was a newbie mastering/mixing section, I would post these questions there...
I record and mix in Sonar and then edit my wave files in wavelab (for intro and outro and fades...)
I have been exporting just normal 16 bit 44.1 wav files from sonar. Would it be better to export higher quality files and knock them down to CD quality files in wavelab?

percussion for beginners
Question for percussionists out there (by the way, Treena - thanks for pointing me here).
I am a bass player, and have a 4 year old son who loves playing drums. I got him a cheap Pulse 4-piece kit - snare, kick, mounted tom, and cheap hi hat and mounted cymbal. He also has a good ride cymbal, compliments from my drummer.

Beginner Gear
I've been researching for a while now and I think I'm about to purchase some basic gear to start recording onto PC. To me, a simple way to start seems to be the Tascam US-224 or US-448. Can anyone tell me about this stuff or suggest an equivalent? I'm looking to spend $500-$1,000. I basically want the digital equivalent of a 4 or 8 track cassette recorder.

A beginners guide to multiband compression
Hi all,
About the only black box I don't have much of a handle on is multiband dynamics processing.
Everything else, I know what I'm looking for, and can pretty confidently dial in the sound I hear in my head. Can anyone recommend a source to help me learn how to get the most out of this process?
Thanks!
Jonathan
