Strange CPU behavior; videocard uses too much?
When playing a file in (for example) WaveLab, the machine uses up to 99% CPU. As a result (?) I have these 'drop outs'. When I put the WaveLab-window in the taskbar, the CPU usage drops to around 20%.
It seems the videocard uses far too much of the CPU, is my conclusion..
The same problem appears when using Cubase...
PCI Express [New Chipset/CPU Architecture] & Legacy Gear
People,
Perusing my latest edition of PC Magazine (August), I came across an article entitled: "A New Era For Desktops." The article discusses the new Intel (64-Bit ready) Chipset releases (915 & 925); and the various innovative technological improvements associated with new bus, storage & memory architectures.
shhh... quite down! cpu and case fans.
i have been looking at fans for my new maxtop server case and am a little concerned. i will line some of the case with noise dampening material and i have space for two 80mm and 1 120 mm fans. i already got a whisper series power supply but am worried if i get stealth fans they will not push enough air to keep my goods cool. anyone want to weigh in on what they use and how you like them?

Dedicated HD Recorder for CPU Relief?
I'm currently running DP on a Mac G4 with a MOTU 2408MKII. I tend to run out of CPU headroom a little earlier than I would care for on most of my mixes.
I was wondering if anyone here knows what the benefits would be by using something like the Alesis HD24XR in conjunction with the computer and mixing software, to take over the read/write duties in the recording/mixing process.

CPU upgrades for G4 Macs. Do they work?
Hi, I am strongly considering uprgrading our 400 MHz G4 with one of the upgrade cards from Sonnet, or Mercury, the folks at OWC sell.
In the past i took an old 8600/300 MHz to G3/500 with good results. We plan to use it only on PT LE.

Program for monitoring CPU temp in Windows?
Is there a good program (preferably freeware, if possible) for monitoring the CPU temperature? Right now the only way I know of is to go into my bios setup menus. I'm running Windows XP. I wouldn't be suprised if its built into Windows somewhere - I just haven't found it. ;)
