EQ tips
This question is for the more experienced mastering engineers:
With regard to boosting/cutting EQ while mastering a tune, do have a general rule you go by as to how much is accpetable versus labeling the tune as "in need of remix"? Obviously, if you need to boost or cut a freq. by 6db there is a problem. But do you try to stick within a certain range, say +/- 1 or 2db or what?

EQ for the POD
I'd like to have a greater range of eq for my POD to help dial in the tones I want while tracking, and not rely so much on plugins after the fact. I was thinking of running it through a Speck ACE, or would a BOSS eq stomp box do what I need? What do y'all think?

hi freq loss in 2"
hey all...i record mostly hard rock, heavy drum and guitar based music. Up till now i'd been forced to track digital (PT/radar/da88/etc).
anyways...i was wondering what you guys do when tracking to compensate for hi freq loss...(yes the machine is well maintained and biased properly)

AMEK 9098 pre + eq rack?
Any users that would like to make a comment or two on the AMEK 9098 pre + eq rack, perhaps?
I will try one for the next couple of days but would really very much hear from folks that has used this unit for some time.
What sources/microphones have you used it for? any weak/strong points? value/money ratio? any other observations?
All thoughts are very welcome!

Which order? EQ - Compressor - De-esser
I once cut out some peices of paper, each with different words on them:
EQ
Compressor
De-Esser
Mic Pre
Mic
And droped them on a table in front of 4 very experienced engineers. It was funny the way they argued and scratched their heads as to 'the right order' for them. There was no uniform concensus at all.

AMEK 9098 pre-eq vs. . AMEK channel in a box?
Other than the compressor is there any difference in how they sound?
Anybody own both?

Need eq recommendation for use with gate.
I own a PreSonus ACP-88 compressor which consists of eight compressor/gates. I use it exclusively for drums. I am having problems getting the gate to work well to eliminate mic bleed without the threshold set too high and decreasing the sensitivity of the drum, that is having to hit the drum extremely hard.
