I plug my brick pre into a mic input on the breakout box of my Aardvrark direct pro soundcard using an XLR cable. If I turn on phantom power on the ark could I damage or cause any problems to my brick?

I want to plugin other condenser mics to the ark which require phantom while using the brick pre.

I just got my GT brick today and I think I really like it. BUT it seems to have a little too much gain. Is there an adjustable inline pad I can put in the line between the brick and my soundcard to lower the gain without destroying all the good stuff from the brick?

After searching and reading this forum I'm almost ready to order the "the brick" preamp. But i like to just be sure its the right preamp for me.

theres no store here where i live that has a wide asortment of preamps, so i dont have the luxory of testing several to find the right one.

First of all, this is my 1st post to this forum. I would like to introduce my self. My name is Mike Manthe. I have a home/project studio. I am the primary recording 'artist', but I work on small projects and colaborations.

I've lurking here for a while and thought I would try to participate.

I was wondering if there would be much in quality/sound difference between the two preamps mentioned here.

I have been thinking about getting "The Brick" and an AT-4040 to record vocals with my current setup a Tascam FW-1884 w/ ADA8000. Is it worth the $450 price tag for the brick? I am looking for something to warm up my vocals and guitar tones.

I think one of my units seems to be acting up. I fire it up and after a couple a few minutes to warm up it works. After that it will intermittently fade out as if the the phantom power faded out or at least was significantly unper powered since and can still hear a very distorted sounding, but low level signal coming through. When this happens, power cycling the unit corrects the problem.

OK i say this tongue and cheek...

but god dammit if I lay down the cash 2 BT Bricks and I dont hear an improvement or a nice added sonic taste over my onyx Mackie pres I'll be very disappointed in everyone who has spoken praise about this item and I will never forgive "you"!

And I am buying a pair of Kel HM-1s and the same goes for them too!

I want to buy a preamp and mic, and after reading all the threads, posts, comments by Kurt, Davedog, Maintiger, etc etc I've shortlisted the RODE k2 (erm...or the NTK - it's soo much cheaper). And for pre's it's the 101 or the brick.
