Recording Bass Guitar - odd tonal disparity

I am setting up to record a bass guitar track and working with the eq. This bass - which admittedly isn't THE greatest bass - has an odd tone thing happening. Any note I play anywhere on the neck has this great punchy clarity to it EXCEPT for any A note - especially open A and the A on the 7th fret of the d-string.

using two different guitars for the same purpose

Hello, I am sorry this may sound like a crazy question, I have no experiencia and I found myself in a critical situation

I am financing recording of a solo flamenco guitar album. The guitarrist is really good but he is going through serious health problems and I am starting to think he is not going to be able to finish the recording.

BEST OVERALL VST(s) FOR PROCESSING 'LIVE' GUITAR?

Greetings Folks!

I'm an intermediate level guitarist and home studio hobbyist with a boatload of great gear including a firewire-based mixing board to a Mac Pro with Garageband and Logic Express, but I'm completely new to recording, so I've got a few basic 'newb' questions for the membership here regarding VSTs for guitar.

compressors for guitar and drum tracks

Hey I'm pretty new to this and i've just started using some compressors on some guitar and drum tracks i've recorded I don't know where to start. Please help! I usually just set the threshold low and turn and turn up the input til i hear it working. Btw, if I want to limit the kick drum i just set the ratio above 10:1? I heard that somewhere. I really need to know how to use these things.

is an old mic or guitar cable as good as a new one?

Forums

..I am not speaking of design here, but of wear: is there anything in a cable that 'wears out' or decays? I understand that contacts need to be cleaned, but am wondering if some of my cables (that are as much as 40 years old) are as good as they ever were? I don't hear a problem, but am simply wondering what consensus there might be here at the forum.
