Are we Micing drums wrong with common techniques?
There's a concept at work out there, that if you think about it, makes some sense. At least to me it does.
Micing a standard trap set for jazz
Hi all...I'm looking for some conventional wisdom that could help me get a decent sound (1st time Micing drums), using the following:
1 Audix OM/2
1 Hi quality stereo binaural Mic
1 SM58
I will be recording to a Kork D12 (can record 4 tracks at once).
Any help with placement (especially), and EQ etc would really be appreciated.
Thanks!

MS Micing Technique?
What is and how exactly do you use this technique? A friend of mine told me it has to do with two mics one in a cardiod and the other in a figure eight. Any comments GREATLY APPRECIATED. Or any other techniques to get a very lush 3D vocal sound.
Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate this!
Keith

Micing a marimba
Hi,
I'm doing a favour for a friend this week, and in the process boldly going where no me has gone before. Everything should go fine, but I would be interested in anyone's input on the best way to mic a marimba.
Thanks,
Doug

Micing a 4 piece drum kit with limited microphones
ok, you have two extra tracks Micing a 4-pc drum kit and you have no mics on your toms and also no room mics. Do you set up two stereo room mics or two tom mics?
m/s Micing w/omni?
i was talking to this engineer ray [vinyl guy @ sterling mastering], and he told me you could do a m/s config. stereo setup with the cardiod as M and a sideways omni as the S [not a bipolar!]
i want to try it, but how does it work? phase wise and all that nonesense? how does it sound?
thanks.

Drum Micing Questions
I have a really basic question (even though I'm sure that the answers probably won't be!)...I've always heard that there are so many different ways to record a good set. Is there any particular technique that you should use over any other? The Shure Kit I have (with the SM57's) seems to be able to handle it...
ANY ideas or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Micing an amp vs. . recording direct
Hi, I love this forum and have appreciated a lot of the advice presented here. I have a very elementary problem with getting quality sound when Micing my amplifier and am not sure the reason for it. I am recording to HD, my signal chain is (in reverse order) SB Live Platinum, Digitech
