Recording Strings - Micing Suggestions
Hi all,
I want your opinions about a specific recording session .
I'm recording a new album for a very well known old-school pop singer, and we are going to record strings on Monday, there are 10 philharmonic strings players :
2x 1st Violin
2x 2nd Violin
2x Violas
2x Cellos

Micing bass cab?
I've taken just the DI channel forever and I've just started Micing the bass cab and blending the DI. I was just curious as to any particular technique for Micing the bass cab. How close should I be micing? What mic? Large Condensor or dynamic? The mics that I have to choose from is:

Micing a violin in a rock band
i do the live sound for a progressive rock band that incoperates a violin, the problem we have been having is with the feedback on using a mic(not to mention lack of mobility) ive been using an acoustic guitar transducer mad by dean markly, first because it was the only thing we could afford but it sound amazing with verry low feedback, the problem with them is they die in about three months th

cheap mics ok for Micing a set?
would cheap dynamic microphones work well enough to mic my drum set?
i don't have money for expensive drum mics or anything. i'd run these into a mixer and then into my 8-track.

Micing old-time acoustic guitar & vox
Working a client that does "old time" acoustic/vocals (with bass and drums but I'm mainly concerned about the acoustic/vox). Any ideas on Micing to capture that ballsy Martin sound?

Mastering techniques for combatting distant miking
This is my first post, so go easy on me.
First off, I realize now after reading the 1st five pages of the mastering forum that I am nowhere (and won't soon be) near a proper mastering setup and for that matter I am questioning the foundation with which I have built this studio up to be (another thread), but all this is not the point.

a beginner needs help with Micing an acoustic guiter
does anyone know the best way i can recored my guitar? my recorder is a boss br 1600CD and my mic is a RODE nt1a. is there a specific input level i shoud use ? how high should i set the input sens ? and how far away should the mic be from the guitar ?
