How Loud Should a Mix Be Before Sending to Master?
Quick question...
How many db's should a final mixdown usually be around before sending out to be mastered? Should it be mixed as hot as possible? Like just before clipping?
Or should there be a fair amount of room left so the mastering engineer has a lot of space to work with...
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!
making a mix big... not loud
I'm working on my own project right now and I have one song almost done. But when I compare it to a reference CD, the reference CD song just seems much bigger. I panned my rhythm guitars hard right and left and tried to create stereo seperation, bass and lead down the middle and drums panned somewhat wide. Even doing that doesn't seem to make it sound much wider.

I would be happy to mix a song 4 any1 here on the forums
Its just a learning process, I'm trying to further in my jedi studies to become a master. P.M. me if its possible.
here's 2 mixes from past mixes.
overall mix at -6 db or 0 db?
what should the highest peaks in the mix hit at. -6 or 0 db?
right now I have my peaks hitting at 0 db and was told by another friend to have the peaks hitting at -6 db. What should I do, remix the tracks or send in to the ME what I have already?
Thanks for the help.

My bass is killing my mix - Help!
Hi. Let me preface this by saying, although I consider myself a decent musician, I am pretty new and very green to recording. I find my problems to always be with mixing.

my mix on other speakers
I mix in a non treated room on Event Electronics TR6 monitors. I like the sound of my mixes even they dont ever stack up to the CDs I buy in a store(probably cause of my Mackie board). My mixes usually sound pretty good in my car and on my nice home stereo but why do they sound so terrible on pc speakers?
