seeking advice for portable multitrack recording system

Hi,
I'm a court reporter from Puerto Rico. I go around lawyers offices and record depositions mostly. I'm looking to replace my standard cassetts recording system with a laptop plus an interface unit that can record a minimum of 4 diferent channels but would like to be capable of expanding to 6 when needed, looking at the Tascam USB 144 at this time.

Multitrack Recording Help on Choices

I have been reading a lot on this site and others and have some general questions in regards to choices of multitrack recording devices before I make a purchase. I guess the big question every one asks is budget which I would like to keep around $800 range but would be willing to think about it if is compelling enough to go up to the $1200 range.

Multitrack recorder/mixer for live use

Hi Im a total newbie looking to buy a cheap multitrack recorder and mixer mostly for live use (letting me play back extra parts along with the live music). I was looking for something with at least one/two aux outputs in addition to regular outputs, to allow me to have a headphone monitor mix as well as a regular mix. I was looking at the Boss BR600 but i dont know if it has what i need.

Multitrack Recorders

I've used a BOSS BR-864 and a Yamaha AW16G in the past. However, I've sold both of them on eBay and I plan on taking the money to buy a new recorder.

What is the best multitrack recorder in the $1000 - $1300 price range?

I've looked at the BOSS BR1600. I think it looks like a great unit, but I want to hear some expert opinions.

Thanks.
