Tracking w/Mackie and Outboard Pre?
How ya doin? Been a while. Spent the last month in acquisition mode. Anyway back to the Mackie 1604 and tracking.
We had been having a discussion before about the limitations of the Mackie ie. wanting to record cmore sources than viable with 16 channels. So I'm wondering about the outboard pre scenario.
What if?

Newbie question: what is the big deal with outboard prea
Hello all,
Like most here I'd assume, I'm your average bedroom engineer/producer. You know - the one with the massive DAW station, that thinks he's one plugin away from the sound of the big boys, and is only a few more late nights away from releasing the next_big_thing despite the fact that he's got precious little time to hone his craft...
Analog outboards place in a digital rig
Hi, I've been recording for a short while now. I generally don't use many effects, and when I do, I just use software plugins through Samplitude or whatever.

DAW and outboard effects
I have a modest setup of a Mac, Cubase 5.1, a Tascam US428 and a Virus Indigo. What would be the best way to incorporate a Joemeek compressor, and a Lexicon reverb into my setup?
I am not clear of getting these outboard effects
into my present system. Would I need an additional piece of hardware?
Thanks in advance

whats the point of outboard gear in a DAW?
Thats the question I need answered. If there are pluginsthat do just about everything, why have a compressor, effects processor, mixer etc? What are the benefits? I own a Lexicon mpx110, bellari la120, RNC and i just ordered my new delta omni studio, do i still need my outboard gear? :D

misc. sonic solutions outboard gear?
Hey guys,
I've just come across some old sonic outboard gear. I am wondering if any of it is usable without the core system.
A/D D/A converters-
1/2 rack w/5pin XLR i/o and optical i/o. has
word clock in
optical converter-
appears to convert optical to/from S/PDIF or
AES. has wordclock

Outboard CD recorder recommendations?
Our ancient HHB CDR-800 is slowly bitting the dust. Any recommendations for it's replacement. I wouldn't mind upgrading if possible.
Thanks for any responses.

Software to control your outboard gear thru MIDI
I heard about an application that can "learn" your outboard gear, and then you can control the parameters, switch programs, settings, etc. using this application to control your gear thru MIDI... does anyone knows what I'm talking about? I could be wrong...
