Static when recording through computer mic port

Forums

I've just bought a Sony Condenser Mic.

I've been trying to record vocals by connecting the mic directly to the mic port on my computer. This works, although I'm getting static in the background through the recording.

I'm pretty sure this is due to the connection to the computer being of low quality, although I'm completely new to this, and just guessing that is the case.

Recording Computer Build

I decided I'm going to go the computer recording route from now on. The main problem is that i don't have a computer. So I'm going to get a job and make money to build my own.

We have this old Compaq pII that I'm going to basically gut and put all new parts in. I want to know what you think of the stuff I'm putting in and if you have any other suggestions or comments

Simple one man computer recording

Hey guys

I am a guitarist that is just looking for a program to do recording on. I currently use some opensource program to record the tracks seperate, like guitar and voice and maybe percussion... but now I need some program on PC that I can make some piano or trumpets on ... nothing too hectic, I am just looking to make some demos, and not let it sound like utter bull...

ok i want to be able to record 8 to 16 mics simultaneously to my computer, if possible i would like to be able to do pre eqs and pans that are sent along with the audio to the computer via firewire or usb. Along with this i want to be able to control at least 4 earphones and 2 sets of monitors and sub and a talk back mic so basicaly a control room surface.

New to Computer-Based Home Recording - A Few Questions

I want to start Computer-Based recording at home, but I have a few questions. I've seen tons of websites like http://www.shopjt3.com/introductory_MIDI.html that tell you what you basically need to get started. However, they fail to mention what the items are used for or why you need them.
