Eliminating room sound from a field recording

Forums

I'm using a field recording of speech that was recorded in a very bright lively room. There's a lot of this room sound on the recording and wonder if anyone has some recommendations for getting rid of some of that room sound and retaining a pretty "natural" sound. In other words, I'm trying to make a very "roomy" recording sound deader.
Thanks.

All about room mic placement?

Forums

Seriously, I've seen countless articles on proper drum Micing and different techniques, but I feel room mic placement just gets a brief mention most of the time.

I'm lost. I have yet to record a decent room mic track. Most of the time it has an ugly sound (like a gated reverb) or full of cymbals and no punch (needing to EQ to compensate, but it's still far from ideal).

Cheapest 2 channel firewire interface for bedroom recording?

PreSonus Inspire?

I'm looking for something for my friend who sings and plays piano and just wants to get a relatively clean recording. Right now she's just using her computer's built in mic/card and getting very noisy results without the ability to adjust the input gain. So I'm looking for a very simple firewire interface. Budget is the main consideration.

monitor size for my room?

I was hoping someone could give me an opinion on the size of monitors I should go with for a room aproximately 12'x10'. I'm thinking of KRK RP line or M-audio BX line. Any recomendations I don't wanna get something too big but I don't want to get something too small either. These are mainly for mixing not tracking except on occasion.

Electrical wiring in my control room

So I've been working on constructing my basement home studio (I live in Canada) for a while now, adding layers of gypsum to the underside of the upstairs floor between the joists, backer rodding, caulking, etc. I am at the point where I have added as much mass as I'm prepared to add to the ceiling and sealed everything off to the best of my ability.
