Looking for advice for anyone who's worked a lot with either or ever directly compared them? I'm about to purchase a set of nearfields as I'm giving my HR824's back to work, wondering whether the HD-1's are worth twice the price of the BM15A . I know the Mackie's are generally well regarded, but having used the HR824's for several years now, I'm just not a big fan of their sound. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello Michael Knappe:
I haven't directly compared these two monitors . So I can't give any meanigful advice in thatn way.

I think if it's at all possible...and because monitors are probably the most personla choice we make...you need to get a pair of each to demo for about week. Mix the same thing/things on them and reference those mixes elsewhere. Make comparitive notes...test them...and you'll find which of the two work for you.

If you havn't done this yet, and you're going to spend that much money...I try this on a few more options than jsut those two. How about ADAMS, ProAcs (they need a BIG expensive amp to raech there potential), KRK's, JBL's, M&K"s, etc....ther are ALOT of great monitors out there...but it's a very personal and subjective thing.

Thanks

They were 2K. BTW, I just found out you can now get 'Signature' 805's for around 3.5K which apparently have a much lower distortion woofer. Didn't get a chance to listen to them, but San Francisco Stereo has them on the floor, and they LOOK amazing!
