At the risk of being bombarded with email, The Beatles first couple of albums had only 2 mics on the drums. Both were dynamic...

If you could compress both mics a little, that would help. But almost any dynamic mic will get the job done.

THE most common "inexpensive" drum mic in studios is probably the Shure SM57. You can get them used for about $50 each. They are pretty good on guitar and vocals as well...

The amount of money you spend on equipment (mics, mic pre amps, and recorder) will be commensurate with your income. And once you start, it NEVER ENDS!!!

Have fun!

Do you already have any mics? Indeed a couple sm57's could work really well. I'd place one on the beater side of the kick positoned to get some snare as well, play around with the position until you get a sound you like. And then use the other as a single overhead. Thats how alot of the early Grateful Dead recordings were done. When Bear ran sound for the Dead he says he had 12 channels, 4 of which were needed to capture 2 drumsets. Each set got the setup as described above. And those live recordings he did back from 72 have some amazing clarity, depth, and punch.
