that's a mess of a question. heh.

If you aren't including overheads, your cheaper options are probalby shure and audix.

I've found the kits usually are cheaper, and if you can find them on ebay you might could save abit more.

Shure DKM57-52 3 57s 1 52 +tom clips i found it for $350 on ebay. Prolly not the best tom mics, but for the versatility of the mics very much worth it.

Audix DP5A 1 I5, 2 D2, 1 D4, 1 D6 buy it now $470-500 on ebay. One mic more than the shure, and while i've never been a fan of the d6 as a kick mic, the rest are great and the i5 makes a great guitar cab mic.

I haven't tried alot of the Sennheiser mics on drums, mainly the 421, and while i love it, it's not exactly cost efficient. Having said that, considering it's many uses, it may be.

Hope that helps.

I use the e604's on toms and the e602 on kick. I recently read on another forum that the capsule in the 604's is the same one as the 421. I bought the e602 first and did a 6 mic shootout, it's an incredible mic for the money, much more bottom end than the competition, but not flabby at all. As for the 604's I rarely need much, if any EQ at all on the toms. Very happy with both.
