OK, I swear I'm not trolling here. I know these questions are asked all the time. I've been writing music in Cubase for years but all in the box. I want to expand to be able to record bands at my studio. What I'd like to know is, in the range of say $2500, what would be a good mic/channel strip combo. The main focus is to have something that will capture pro sounding vocals. With that said, I'd also love to have something versatile for acoustic guitar or anything else. I'll already have 57s and 58s. I'm looking more for a magic bullet combo. Most of what I'll probably record will be rock styled music, female and male vocals. Anyhelp would be much appreciated.

Well, that's kind of the problem. I dont really know of any other studios around here that I could sit in to experiment or learn from. I know this all seems too vague. I have heard great things about some of the AT stuff like the 40 series which carries a pretty reasonable price tag. I'd also like opinions on the Neumann TLM 103. Oh, and also, DaveDog mentioned some of the telefunken stuff. Any input on the would be great. As far as pres, I really need help. I'm not a total audio idiot but I am getting very confused looking at all the different pres and compressor combos in Sweetwaters catalog. I'd like to stay with something that has a proven track record of good results. That said, what about the UA stuff like the LA-610 or the 6176.
Then of course there are stereo versions of the same which I'd love but cant afford right now. But maybe I should wait for a stereo pre for recording drum overheads? Will it help considerably to tame cymbals splashes and stuff? I know I'm asking too much for a single thread but if I can just get a start from here or be directed a couple places for review of some of this gear it would be nice.
Also, how do ant of the plug-ins rate compared to these dedicated pres. Such as the Neve and SSL plugs from UA and WAVES? I'm sure they'd be nice to have but can anything really do AS WELL AS the real things. Also along those lines would be Duende and LIquid Mix. Anyhelp is much appreciated.

The UA 6176 is great unit and one that I use often. Much prefered over the LA610. The AT4050 is real good general purpose workhorse. I also like and use the AT 4047 & 4060. The TLM103 is often hit or miss but I''m still glad that I have one.
Your likely better of taking the Duende or Liquid questions over to the DAW or Digital recording forums.
Time spent using the search engine should enlighten you greatly.
