Hi
can anyone tell me the difference between the two?

The O2R96 is more comprehensive, more routing, more control, more flexible patching, more I/O capability, more buttons so it's easier to navigage. It's also about 4 times the price. If I was doing a lot of 24-track work or required 96 kHz I'd look at the Yamaha. The DM24 is a 12 channel board at 96 kHz, which is quite limiting to me. I use my DM24 at 48 kHz or 44.1. I looked at both but because this is only a hobby to me, and plus I was running three DA-88 machines, I picked the DM24.

There are a few problems with the DM24, but no disasters. The only two issues that had me digging inside was a noise issue on the analog send/returns, it required me to add a capacitor between two grounds on the power supply, and the lined-display problem. To me it appears as though the display panel is attached too tightly to the front panel. This probably causes the board to warp and it looses contact with the glass panel (which doesn't warp). My 'fix' was to leave the screws slightly loose, and time will tell if that fixes the problem.

Dale, I am considering the DM24 as one of many but mainly because it has a Firewire I/O option.

I would love 96k but I can live quite well with 44.1 so that doesn't bother me.

Its still the cheapest board in its range out there. I like the Yamaha 01v96 better but there is no Firewire I/O therefore you need another interface if yo want to use Mac or PC DAW.

Why can't the board mfgs get with it and give us a way to get the digital in and out of the computer. The boards are already converting!

The 02R96 is a much more expensive board. Its also a better board in terms of preamps and flexibility. Its out of my range.

One of my fears is that Tascam is about to come out with a revised DM24. The board is already almost 4 years old I believe. That exceeds the model life of most digital gear. Its usually 2 years.

I am still looking at analog boards but even there the options are slim. Soundcraft Ghost ect.

I started a new thread on the DM24 ect.
