I've been huntin around for a while and can't seem to find a basic block diagram-level explanation of how ASIO drivers route audio data. Seems like this should be out there somewhere... Anyone have a good source for this info?

I guess what i'm really looking for is a description/picture of how ASIO relates hardware inputs to software and back to hardware outputs in terms of channels, buses, etc, max number of channels, what they are typically called in various software, I hope you get the idea. I'd really like to have a complete picture of my signal path from pre input/mixer to tracking software and back out, and I'm missing what's in between the soundcard and applications/ plugins.
