Hey guys i gotta question about the guitar tone in the intro of this song
(and yes i know no one likes miley cyrus but hey that tone is ridiculous haha)

ok so i am Micing my crate amp (with 1 12" speaker) with 1 or 2 sm57s (whichever is needed) and i dont know whether i should use a preamp, compressor, or whatever for the sound (thats what i am asking you guys for)

i am a guitar player and i know a lot if not all of the tone comes from the amp, pedals, and guitar

but what do you suggest

I will probably get flak for this but.......I would bet that's a Line 6 POD with a Fender Tweed setting.

If not, you would definitely want to look at a tube amp with a good clean channel. IE: Fender Twin Reverb, Tweed, Bassman or the like.

I highly doubt you will be able to get that sound out of your crate. There is that slight dirt that comes in from the tubes. Nice. I'm not sure you could get that even with a Tube Crate. They tend to pander toward Metal Heads. IMHO.

Tone is in the fingers. (Just my way of making excuses in advance since I always get these guessing games wrong.) But that intro just says strat through a Fender amp turned up just to the point the dirt starts. I'll go further out on the limb and guess one of those middle pickup positions 2 or 4 - but I'm a tele guy so what do I know.

Well she probably doesn't have soul, first off.

As the others on here have suggested, that sounds like single coils though a fender amp. However, if you got the blues touch you can pull it off through a practace amp that clips to your belt. Try working with what you got before buying an amp on the fly to chase a particular sound.

...and just to be self-contradictory, the amp is the most important peice of the signal chain (in my opinion) and if you are not satisfied with yours, it will be hard to be satisfied with anything you do with guitar.
