hi people. I'm glad to be part of this community. it gives me some nu insights and i get 2 learn from the experts
i got a problem. i love to do digtl-audio but I'm a total noob, i js got me a laptop, and i dont have any gadgets excpt adobe audition. i recently tried to record a rhythm guitar track to a digital music composition using a "guitar-overdrive-mic input", when i got it to play though, it sounded at first like the ovrdrive sound but seconds later it gets clean and then flangey coupled with slightly fluctuating volume. eversince then i could never get the same sound i hear. did i blew up my soundcard to flange hell? pls help
ps. my lptp's processr is intel core2 & my audio is realtek

There are a couple reasons not to use the Pc sound card. First it doesn't have the proper hi impedece inputs to accept guitars direct or preamps to take mics. Second, the quality of the converters is not going to give you very good results. Your Laptop should be fine. I would recomend to NOT use the on board sound card and purchase a pro audio interface. You can go firewire or usb but firewire is prefered because of larger bandwidth.
There are several interfaces that work real well. I would recomend the Presonus Firebox. It has two mic preamp/inst channels and 2 instrument channels for 4 simultaneous tracks. It has MIDI I/O to connect a Keyboard. It comes with Cubase LE recording software (48 tracks) should be more than enough.
You can connect your guitar straight to the hi impedence input and add a Amp modeler (VST) and effects. Or you could mic your amp and go to the presonus that way. Also, you could add a vocal mic if needed. You will immediatley be able to notice a difference in the recordings.
