Hi Greg and everyone

I love my procontrol. I absolutely hate it's analog monitoring section. It's embarrassing.

Do you know of anyone in London who might be able to improve it for me.

Assuming that it couldnt or shouldnt be done, how should I get around it? My requirements are as follows...I am not using surround just now, so I have a single stereo output pair. I want to feed my main monitors, an alternate pair, and a headphone amp...so I need three stereo pairs, with independent level controls, mutes if possible, and a mono option if possible. As I am short of outputs this must come from a single stereo pair. What is on the market? Who could make me something?

I made a passive attenuator based around a dact balanced step attenuator, which I was using pre pro control, just for the main monitors. It is absolutely great. Could I get another couple attenuators from dact and build something myself or is it not that simple?

Hi Jack,

The ProControl (PC) can do what you are asking, as per the reply in Jules' forum. I would add though that the monitor section of PC really isn't that bad. It used to be a bit dodgy but I sent mine back for an upgrade about 8 months ago and they replaced the whole analog monitor section. It's sounded fine since then. Obviously all new PCs have the analog upgrade as standard.

Thanks for your reply. I wasnt very clear in my original post. I am using the monitor section in the way I described already. I think it sounds bad. I am using a pair of dynaudio bm6a's and I cant get the main pot more than about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way up before it's too loud for normal working. When the pot is turned down below about 1/4 there is a nasty distortion. I have ordered a new pot, but I have doubts as to whether it will yield any great improvements. I dont mind using the section for my alternate speakers and cans. If I had an extra interface, I could separate the main monitors, but I just dont have the outs just now.

Hi Jack,

Do you know if your PC's monitoring section is the new new upgraded section or the old? If you have the old monitoring section it's definitely worth upgrading, same with the upgraded pot.

The other point is that it definitely sounds better with the main pot at or above the 11 o'clock position. Is there any way you can attenuate the signal going into your speakers? My powered monitors have thier input gain turned way down and I've not got any complaints with the monitor section.

Well yes I could run the signal out of my procontrol and through my passive attenuator, keeping the pc pot at 12oclock. It just feels like I'm doing more and more to the signal. If I could build myself a stereo to 3 stereo pair attenuator, I could bypass the pc section totally. I just dont know how complex it could be. The stereo in/stereo out one was a piece of piss, but what would happen if I split the signal? ...In fact the only outputs which would need an attenuator would be the main ones. The alternate speakers and the headphone amp both have their own level controls. So I really just need to take my existing unit, and modify it so that when the stero source comes in, it is sent to 2 extra stero pairs pre attenuation. Is this as easy as it sounds?
