I don't see any sense in taking a line level signal down to mic level with DI boxes and going through mic pres... does the digimax thing have line inputs?

I thought the Digimax had Neutrik Combi input jacks on it. The type that takes XLR or 1/4" line inputs.

A line source isn't automatically made mic-level just by going through the passive DI.

Although if it is passive it must attenuate the signal significantly to give a high input Z and low output Z. This means it will be nearer to mic levels than line levels. It really depends on the input and output impedance.

However that seems somewhat irrelevant as the turntable mixer should have a low enough output impedance to directly drive the line input of the Digimax. I don't see why the OP cannot just use his existing leads into the Digimax - assuming dvdhawk is right and the Digimax does indeed have combo inputs.

From what I'm seeing on the PreSonus website, there are two models of DigiMax.

The D8 version has 2 x 1/4" line ins on the front panel and conventional XLR females on the back panel

The FS version has 8 combi-jacks for inputs on the front. Either way you've got all you need.

I wouldn't bother with the DIs unless you're running a long distance.

To answer the last part of the original post, if you decide you want/need a stereo DI - I used one of these [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.rapcohor…"]Rapco db-200[/]="http://www.rapcohor…"]Rapco db-200[/] last month while doing a live show where the headliner was a rapper. His DJ gave me two 1/4" cables from his DJ mixer, I ran his L/R feeds through the db-200 into the snake. About $60 - easy.

A passive direct inject is for the most part made up of a microphone transformer in the order of something like 8-12:1. Apply a line level signal to the primary of such a transformer and the secondary WILL be showing something in the realm of a microphone level signal.

Anyway, that's beside the point. The OP says their turntable puts out line level. They should plug the line outputs of the turntable into the line inputs on the digimax box and get down to business :)
