Hello all,
I'm replacing my original TOA speakers, after 20+ years, and can't find any info on them as to impedance, etc.
Since I don't know anything about this stuff, could I pick your brains a little, to see what I should be looking for?
I'm still running my old TOA MX-106 (the really old one with delay, not reverb), and would like to match some bigger speakers to it. Here's the info on the mixer
300W RMS (2 OHMS)
200W (4 OHMS)
120 (8 OHMS).
I have no idea what any of that means, and maybe I don't need to. What I'd like to know is what numbers should I be looking at in new speakers? I'd like to go 12", I guess, maybe with horns. Looking to keep it under $400. Am I dreaming? Is there any other info you need about the mixer?

Peavey Impulse 1012 speakers would be great but they'll blow your budget. The PR series are within your budget and have enough power handling to let you upgrade your power amp for more volume. Yamaha Club series is good but over budget, so buying used would be an option. The SM12V or SM12IV are monitors with pole mounts for use as mains, and you should be able to get them used for under $400/pair.
Given the limited amount of power available from your mixer/amp you'll want to put some emphasis on finding efficient speakers. Look for high sensitivity ratings, at least 100dB/1W/1M.

The JRX is shaped like a monitor and can be used as a floor monitor or mounted on a tripod to be used as mains.
Both of those speakers would be 8-ohm (nominal), your old TOA speakers were most likely 8-ohms, or 4-ohms.
The JBLs have a $50 off special until the end of Aug. and even at that, both the JBLs and Community would be a little over $500 per pair. You might be able to find something used with some miles left on it in your $400 budget. I haven't heard anything new in that pricerange that I liked.
Peavey has several offerings in your price range - I think PR, PV, or Impulse would be the 3 most economical lines.
The mixer info is sufficient and considering the age of your TOA I'd plan ahead and get speakers that can take the higher power if you ever want/need to replace it as well.
