Hey everyone,

I'm having MAJOR problems with my system, hopefully you guys can give me a hand!

Each time I start a new session in Cubase it eventually crashes, whether it be 2 seconds or 15 minutes into the session. I have no idea why, I'm pretty sure I've set everything up right. I've used Opus' Optimisation guide for Win98SE but I'm still having problems...I'm on the verge of crying. .literally! I'm holding back the tears...I know it's not healthy to bottle it all up inside. so please somebody help me!

Here's some background info of my system:
PIII 1000hz;
512MB RAM;
Asus CUSL2-C Motherboard;
32MB AGP Video Card (Nvidia);
60G IDE HDD (Seagate);
Advansys SCSI Ultra Wide SCSI Card (latest driver);
18G SCSI HDD (Seagate);
Tascam US-428 (latest driver);
SB Live;
Netcomm 56K Serial Modem;
Sony CD-RW;
Panasonic DVD Rom Drive;

I think thats about it as far as hardware goes.

Main software:
WIN98SE;
Cubase VST 5.1 (crashes were happening before the update);
Wavelab;
Recycle.

I have an Akai S2000 sampler thats connected to the SCSI card as well.

I don't have any major IRQ conflicts, but here are the IRQ's that are sharing:

IRQ 11 NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro;

I'm also using my system for the internet and watching DVDs...I know my system should be dedicated, but hey!

Sorry guys for the long post, but I'm a desperate man!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Opus, Actually I'm a little embarrased now......I've done what you said and everything is fine. I completely got rid of the SB card...ripped that sucker out, I'm not even gonna bother installing it....anyways
I'm still getting IRQ sharing on some IRQs (PCI steering) should I worry about this?

Little help for a dummy here, if you please Opus2000 and others...

I've got the same problem. I didn't copy my IRQ list as Jofus so helpfully did, but I've got my PCI modem (yeah, yeah, I know)and AGP video card sharing the same IRQ. My Abit BE6II mobo allows me to change some IRQ's in the BIOS. I move what they COM device to another IRQ, and when I check in Windows System Info, the AGP card moved with the modem to the new IRQ!

Any ideas?

Basically this is the scenario...you will want to disable the Com ports in the BIOS so that you can free up some IRQ's! Dont use the BIOS to assign IRQ's..it's not reccomended. The best thing to do is take the modem out..make sure the com ports are disabled to free up the IRQ's..you might also want to disable the USB port if you arent usingit as well! The more IRQ's available the better! You dont need the Com port unless you have something physically attached to the serial ports on the motherboard. Once that has been done turn on your system..make sure all is well for IRQ's..next turn off system..put modem back in..turn on system and check IRQ's...if still sharing turn off system and try another PCI slot..it's like a nutshell game unfortunately but it will help in the long run
