Hi, this book was recommended to me. I noticed it's 20-22 years old. I was able to view the Table of Contents on Amazon and even read a few pages - seems like the material would not date much. However I was wondering if there's something just as comprehensive plus information on how it relates to modern equipment?

Anyone read Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook but also has read another and can recommend it instead?

Thank you,
Patrick

There are some dated elements in that book, but you get such a well-grounded training in the basics of sound system theory and physics, that point is moot. It is truly an unbiased representation of sound system operation and applications. Yamaha was one of the very first manufacturers that offered true, real world education on this subject back in the 70's, they have remained at the forefront. Highly recommended. I have 2-one in the house rack drawer, the other's in the ...bathroom! 8-)

my favorite part of that book is the few pages that , in essence, say not to ever trust a manufacturer's specs.

basically... dont rely on numbers like frequency range/response, THD, power output, etc.

as someone who works for a major music retailer, i see people come into the store every day and start rattling off numbers. ie - "this mic has a response of 20Hz-20kHz, so it must be better than this other mic which is 20-16k". then we plug the mic into a sound system and A/B them. sure enough, the numbers dont mean anything when it comes to tone, fidelity, and overall satisfaction.
