Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but...

As far as setting a standard of 'what MY mixes should sound like' and 'what my mixes should sound like in this room', do you have a list of favorite standards.
For instance, I know my room (currently, temporarily) isn't properly set up, but I popped in Pearl Jam TEN, listened to it, and then mixed my song until it sounded similar. Neither sounded good in the room, but I was close when taken out to 'the family room stereo'.

I guess I just want to have a superb point of reference for mixing and :D auralization (big word!- Hooked on phoniks werked for mee!)

I know there are different selections for different purposes. I guess I'm looking for info across the spectrum of music.

I like to vary it depending on the song and the artist. I have used Beatles, Stones, Yes, T-Rex (I know the sound isn't great, but it was what I was after), Radiohead, U2, Oasis (just so I knew I was good), Little Feat, ...... I think a reference is just like a mic-pre, different ones for different purposes.

Great Thread Topic! I was just thinking last night about one to post and this is a great one! I see a lot of replies on this one. My fave is anything by Tom Petty... I think he make the best records in the world. I especially like his collaborations with Jeff Lynn. What 's the word on those marvelous diffusers you designed? I real think you ought to manufacture them and offer them to RO members at a discount! :D

I popped in a Petty CD. You're right. Great mix.
I've got PinkFloyd 'the wall' playing on the turntable. I don't know if its really a great sound or if its just cool because its on a record, but I'm diggin it!

The diffusors are actually being built as you read this!!!!!!

I'm going to try and post a rendering of it today (if I get time to finish it). Here's the deal:
2'x4'. 12 wells. Max depth 8". Should be effective down to 410Hz or so. In theory, much less. Wells are 1.5" wide.

Discount for members of Recording.org?

I live here for safety reasons.

Think about it- if I were in FLA and I spontaneously combusted (which may happen because my lyrics and riffs are so blazingly hot...) I'd have nowhere to go to extinguish myself.

Ahhh yes. But up here, I could just run outside, roll in the a)snow b)sleet c)slush d)mud e)freezing rain (seasonally adjusted....) and extinguish myself. That is, except ofcourse, for the 45 days from mid July to September 1st, when it is 7 thousand degreed, humid, and we all get sunburn :cool: .
