Need tips for getting a full, "big drums" sound
Forums
Hello. I'm new here and this is my first post. I'd like to know how to get the largest, fullest sound I can get out of my drum kit. Right now, my kit's in a finished basement and the ceiling is 6' 8" high and the room is 12' x 16'. My 4-track and my cheap Radio Shack mics make my drums sound like they're made of paper plates, but they're all I have.
Most Realistic metal guitar synth?
Forums
Under 600 dollars. I've only seen the virtual guitarist as an option for midi guitar. Can anyone recommend others?
I want to sound like Tool/metallica/ac/dc, metal sound
Thanks

Yamaha AW2400
Forums
Hi,
We are an acoustic group in Bournemouth (UK) who has kindly been lent a AW2400 deck to record our music. So far, so good... :D
The problem being thet we are a bit (a lot) useless at operating it and it takes us ages to get anything done, let alone the fact that the quality we get is far from satisfactory :(

Preamp upgrade opinions!
Forums
Looking to upgrade over the Digi 002R pre's. Budget $1,500. I primarily record electric guitar, bass, vocals. My only condenser mic is an AT3035 which is decent but nothing fancy. The unit i decide to get must have a good instrument pre in it.
After research these are the pres i found suitable. If anyone has any experience with these, please let me know what you think:

vintage sounding vocal - tips'n'tricks?
Forums
hey gang, i'm going to be working with a band soon, and i think a very old fashioned vocal sound would work killer on them (it's dark yet poppy trip-hop). i've been racking my brains for how to achieve this...major proximity effect, then eq it to get trebly pops...

Vocal Saturation/Distortion
Forums
I'm sure there are several methods to the same end in this case, but I was wondering how the vocals are tracked/processed to get the sound you hear from groups like Rancid, Arctic Monkeys, The Hives, etc. I know that most of these recordings are already limited to the max, but the vocals have a certain "old tape" quality.
