Hi-hat Microphone
I would like to know what would be a good microphone to use for recording hi-hat? Usually people will use their highest quality mic on the overheads. Since overheads pick up cymbals, wouldn't you use the same high quality mic on hi-hat too?

Jam
I suppose this is obvious, but are the CD "scectors" in Jam the same as frames in Masterlist CD?

My mind is spinning
Hi,
I started the Brauner Valvet vs Neumann M 147 thread a while ago and still haven't come to any conclusion what to buy especially now since some new thoughts have been spinning around in my mind for a couple of days (and nights).
What do you guys think would be a healthier investment given a budget of 2500$:

Good CHEAP mics
I have been getting a lot of questions from readers of a sound advice column I write about getting their first P.A. system. I always suggest they buy SM57/58 mics since I really feel for the bucks they can't be beat but I'm getting questions about mics like the Behringer XS2000 which can be had for $20 each and the Samson R21 mics.

8 channel AES/EBU PCI card. Anybody making this?
I swear up and down that SEKD was making a 8 channel in, 8 channel out
AES/EBU card (I thought I saw something in EM or Mix recently), but I
cannot find it from any manufacturer. 2 AES i/o channel is common,
but with the need for 24 channels of simultaneous inputs on three PCI
slots, it's obviously impractical. Anybody know if there is a card
Good deal?
I'm brand new to this, is this a good deal... Intel 1.2GHz Throughput
Rackmount Case 4U, 19" Rackmount Width: Stealth Black w/ Rack Ears, locking door (to dampen CDROM noise)
Blue LED
Padded internal drive rack
Acoustically Treated for Noise
17.75" Rack Depth - fits SKB ATA Flight Style Cases with both endcaps fitted!

Analog Mix Down Console
Need a little direction---Looking for a analog "mix-down" board----24 to 32 channel, 8 sends per, a quality 4 band eq with sweeps,,mic preamps do not matter--would like 90% of I/O on top of board--and would like under 3 feet wide>>>>>>so impossible? Not Mackie nor Behringer-(although the MX 3282 has the exact features--but looking for the next sonic quality up) Any hints?

Intentionally Bad Recordings
A group of us were discussing why so many CDs are being recorded with intentionally bad, distorted or extremely lo-fi sound. What are the reasons that someone would go out of their way to distort and annoy the listener. Generally, it seems we are talking about more cutting edge alternative rock, dance, electronica, hip hop music styles. This is a philosophical question.
