MADI cable 50/125 µm vs. 62.5 µm
Forums
I'm migrating to MADI.
I just bought a used MADI HDSPe interface with no cable. Digging through my nest of cable, I tried toslink and monster fiber cable but it doesn't work. So, I've been doing some research on what cable to buy and learning the differences.
RME MADI requires either 50/125 µm and 62.5 µm

Brauner Phanthera V level Problems. Help!
Forums
Lately I've noticed that I have to use quite a lot of gain on my mic preamps to get a good level out of my Phanthera V.
I decided to use a 1 kHz sine wave to test the Phanthera against my AKG C414.
According to specs the Brauner has a higher sensitivity than the C414:
Brauner 33 mV/ Pa Cardiod
C414 20 mV/Pa (-34 dBV) +/-0.5 dB

Craig reel-to-reel tape player runs too fast
Forums
I have two, 212 Craig tape recorders that ran normal, until I used a 9v ac adaptor on both of them, & took out a component that makes it run in ff mode only, no play or rewind. The rewind goes to ff.

Akai S3000 floppy format ?
Forums
I am fighting an old Akai S3000. It seems to be working fine but I can't figure out how to format a 3.5" floppy. I have the instruction manual which shows a screen that you get when you push the FORM soft key, but I can't find how to make the FORM label come up.
btw, existing floppies load just fine so the drive is ok. and yes, I have checked the write protect.

Question about thickening digital guitars
Forums
So I am a major VST nerd and I really enjoy the convenience of keeping most things in ITB. I don't have anything but an LA-610 for outboard other than a Tascam DM-4800 which is as warm as. .well, it's not warm. So, I am totally reworking my monitoring end of my studio and adding some OTB analog summing. I am also, after that, planning on beefing up the front end with some more nice pres.

Would you buy monitors used?
Forums
I'm just wondering. I am looking to buy the Focal Twins later this year. It seems that I could save about $700 (roughly 20%) by picking them up on ebay. Of course, that's just right now and I can't afford them yet. I mean, it seems like it would be ok from a reputable seller with good feedback and pictures, but how would I truly know that they were performing up to their standard?

Home Recording

I just got all my equipment set up (see my gear profile). I am looking at the Pro Tools screen and have no idea what to do or how to get any sound at all coming from the mic, the guitar or the midi keyboard. Please point me in a direction of where I can start - even just to make a simple guitar and vocal recording. Nothing ever comes with instructions anymore. Thanks.
