I'm going to start a thread here for questions for those that are new to mastering would like answered. Software, hardware, monitoring, or just the approach some of us take when tackling a song. If i can't answer it, i'm sure someone can.

Hello all, I'm a mastering engineer in the NYC area and have been in self debate for many years whether to roll off below 20hz or not to.

Anyone have any experience with either a SPL Tube Vitalizer or their new MK2-T mastering unit?

Hi,

I have noticed that the default release time on both the Waves L1 and the Masterlink Limiter is 10 mS. That seems very short to me. I have experimented by using extreme boost (-12 to -20 thresholds) and adjusting the release for minimum artifactts. I ended up with release in the 0.8 to 1.5 S region. I used these figures, with seemingly good success, to master with thresholds at -4 to -6.

hi friends!I have just finished the recording, editing and mixing of the fourth CD of a local Camerata orchestra.

It was a budget project, entirely done on a bad acoustical place, but with efforts to make it sound really good. Three days with an 8 hour recording period on each.

Just curious if anybody is using this machine for mastering. Looks like an interesting unit, even though it only has 3 bands. I really wonder how it stacks up against the big boys sound quality purity and transparency wise? (Sontec, Millennia, GML, Avalon, etc.)

Its funny how people always say you should send your stuff to the pro's but I've heard some work out of mastering houses that are crappy . They say these mastering house have high-endequipment so tell me how can they make a product worse . Out of respect for these engineers I wont mention the famous mastering house .
