Mics for Indian music
Recently I mixed a show with a traditional Indian band (Congas, a double ended drum, harmonium, tamborine, shaker and vocal). Unfortunately I only had dynamic mics and although I got a resonably good sound it was a struggle to get enough volume before feedback. The room was timber and glass and very live. The stage seemed to resonate at about 200Hz which didn't help at all.

I need some advice choosing a vocal mic
I am building my first project studio and I need some advice choosing a good tube based condenser mic for vocals.
my budget is roughly $500-$600 and while I usually prefer to buy used, the delicate circuitry of these mics makes me want to go for a new one so I can be sure there are no surprises.

microphone repairs
Is anyone here able to recommend a capable, trustworthy microphone repair service? That seems to be pretty specialized knowledge.

Neumann u47/valve mics question
I am currently looking for a really nice mic to invest in. I would like to keep the price low but for nice I know that really isn't a option. I used a mic at a friends studio a while back for synths and vocals called the Neumann u47. It was made somewhere around the 50's. I am trying to find something of similar variety. Does anyone happen to know anything about RODE mics?

Pop music mixing & dynamic range
I'm getting a little ferklempt, I'll give you a topic...
Mixing methodology. How do we normally tackle the mix? Build up a drum mix, followed by bass, and up to guitars and vocals? Or start off with solo vocals / lead element at a certain volume (?), and bring up the other elements around that?

Mic placement for recital recording
I have seen a couple of recordists [?] place their microphones [stereo bar] on the floor in front of an elevated stage at about stage floor level, slightly to stage left to record student recitals at the school where I work.
They have done this to be visually unobtrusive.
