How to mic Tabla ?
I'll be recording a Tabla player for the first time in a couple of days. While I've recorded hand drums, they were always open drums.
Anyone have advice on how to mic Tabla ?
Thanks, Kirk

Phantom Power on a tube mic
I was in a shop today testing preamps and the salesman freaked when I turned on phantom power(on mistake). We were using a tube mic, the RODE NTK and he said that the phantom power would harm the tube in a tube mic's power supply. I have never heard this, is this true?

Positioning Drum Room Mics
I have a great sounding studio drum kit (Ayotte/Paiste) and a great sounding wood/concrete/carpet room that measures approximately 20'x22'x11' high with a vaulted ceiling. It's professionally spec'd and acoustically treated (bass traps, dimensions, etc.) I know it's not large by drum room standards, but it sounds large and powerful.

Classical Guitar Mics
Just heard the Royer Labs demo CD, and I must say that the Schoeps 221B mic sounded SWEET on classical guitar! I couldn't find it for sale anywhere (I guess cause it's old), but on the Schoeps website directxfiles.com, it said that they have a NEW "improved" version called the M 222 B. Does it really sound as good as the 221?

Pearl 8-CK microphones - anyone?
Just bought two of those - will get them next week. They are large diaphragm condenser with switchable characteristics and a rectangular capsule.
Does anyone know their sound?
What did you use them for?
Thanks, Christof

Heads Up - RS clip on instrument mics
Since I know Harvey is partial to them, and a few others here are as well, I thought it'd be worth mentioning that Radio Shack has these mics on sale for $30 a pop. If nothing else, get a few and sell them to the next band that asks you if you can help them with their live setup ;)

Fluid dynamic bearings = hot hot hot
i read in sound-on-sound the other day that the Maxtor Fluid dynamic bearing motors run hot and may require additional cooling. seeing how i just ordered and received two of these for my ANUS do i have reason to be concerned? has anybody else used Maxtor drives with this technology? the last thing i want is a hot ANUS. i've got a fairly large case coming for the build.
