anyone have any good tips on basic compression settings for hip hop vocals? what should the threshold, ratio, attack, and relase be set to?

i'm just interested in how you use reverb, room etc... in the mix at drums, guitars, bass, vocals. how do you work with the "mainreverb" and what kind of verb-fx you use on snare or kick or other instruments.

how many different reverb-Fx you use in a track?

i found out that this is one point why my tracks do not sound as they should.

Fully parametric compression. not just multiband.

does anyone know of a free recording software that will work on windows xp pro and with my roland vm3100pro R-Bus connection and PCI card? i was using logic but it only works with win 98 and i am a bit past that now. thanks for any help.

It seems to me that upward expansion will yeild the exact same results as compression with a gain boost. Either way, the ratio between loud and quiet parts of the mix will end up the same, right? If I am wrong, can someone please explain the difference between these two?

these have been something i have been eyeing on and unfortunatly i have yet to hear an avalon.i am aware many hip hop and r & b locals consider this an industry standard. Can some one help me out here on giving the pro's and cons of these components?

I recently bought a Motif Rack ES from my local Guitar Center because I thought that it had nice sounds that I'd be able to use. However, I can't get it to work with my Triton Xtreme the way I want.

quick question - if i'm in pro tools and have a track with a bunch of regions on it, each with its own fade, and want to use the consolidate function command.. does it process the fades, or are they lost?
