question is what are the advantages/disadvantages/features of these 2 units?

I plan to buy oneof these 2 or very similar in next few days...

Would it be safe for me to assume that much or most of the noise/hiss that I am getting in my recordings (from amplifiers and what not) will be overpowered by the actual signal in the mixdown and therefore will be masked from hearing? It's registering less than -50dbs (the noise that is).

This will be used to record all popular genres as well as classical and film, TV work. Was just interested to see what equipment anyone else would choose with that amount of money!

I have some simple but fairly good quality recording equipment at home and also a P.A. which is used largely for vocals at small band shows.

I am not a professional recorder but I am a professional musician and I know the benefit of spending more money to get good quality gear.

Im sorry for opening yet another soundcard thread, but I'm looking for something specific. i have had a hard time finding a "great" product with all these features:

8 analog ins
at least 2 pre's
firewire or pci
ADAT in for adding converters and/or more analog ins
BNC for word clock
8 analog outs
Inserts for adding bus compression

How to use this gear on a mixdown, when I'm thinking of mix some things on a computer?
